Abstract

Cary Supalo is interested in building bridges to enhance participation and foster interest in laboratory based careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for students with low vision or blindeness. At age seven, Cary lost his sight but instead of letting this hinder him, it sparked a curiosity in Cary to better understand how the world around him worked. He is a chemist by education with a Bachlors degree from Purdue University and a Masters from Penn State University. Cary is also an entrepreneur; the Founder and President of Independence Science, a company focused on empowering students with low vision, blindeness and print disabilities to gain hands-on, multi-sensory experiences in classrooms and laboratories. His passion is chemical education and the development of access technologies that will aid and further advance the creation of this barrier-free, inclusive educational environment.
